A great exhibition stand does more than fill a floor space – it stops visitors mid-walk, tells your brand story in seconds, and gives your team the setting to turn conversations into leads. Whether you’re exhibiting for the first time or refreshing a stand that’s done a few shows, here are five things worth thinking about before you book your next event.

1. What do you actually want the stand to do?

Before any design work starts, it helps to be clear on the job the stand needs to do. Are you launching a product, generating leads, building brand awareness, or entertaining existing clients? A stand built to attract passing footfall looks very different to one built for pre-booked meetings. Getting this right early saves a lot of redesign later.

2. Custom build or modular system?

Custom exhibition stands are designed and built specifically for your brand and space – ideal if you want real standout and have a consistent schedule of shows. Modular systems are more flexible and cost-effective, and can be reconfigured for different stand sizes as your events calendar changes. Neither is “better” – it depends on your budget, how often you exhibit, and how much your requirements change from show to show.

3. Don’t forget the graphics and signage

The structure gets people to notice your stand; the graphics and signage are what tell them who you are and why they should stop. Clear messaging, consistent branding and good use of lighting make a bigger difference than most exhibitors expect – often more than the size of the stand itself.

4. Plan logistics as early as the design

Build and de-rig times, storage between shows, transport, and on-site installation all affect both cost and stress levels. A stand that looks great on paper but is a nightmare to move and build can end up costing more in the long run. This is worth discussing with your stand builder at the design stage, not after.

5. Think beyond a single event

If you exhibit more than once a year, it’s worth designing with reusability in mind – a stand that can be adapted for different hall sizes, or that can double up for roadshows and in-house events, gets far more value out of the same investment.
